About the Artist — Martha Kuper Brinson

From the very first time I started painting, I realized it is an expression of the spirit of the moment and that I paint what I feel as much as, or even more than, what I see.  If I try to paint when I am troubled, the paintings just don’t work for me.  My subjects include seaside and country scenes, botanical illustrations, animals, abstracts, and more.  Proceeds from a number of my paintings help various humane societies as well as humanitarian organizations.

My time is split between Topsail Island and Green Level community near Raleigh, North Carolina.  I enjoy playing fiddle and piano, cooking, collecting old cookbooks, and spending time with my husband, family, and our pets (SPCA shelter pups, Rascal and Sally, and our stray who came to stay, Roger the Striped Wonder-Cat).

Every single day of my life, I try to surprise someone in some nice way, whether it is a lifelong friend or a total stranger.  As an ovarian cancer survivor, I view each new day as a gift.  I try every day to help someone who needs me and to give more than I take, and I hope this spirit comes through in my paintings.
